In order to comply with U.S. Treasury regulations regarding legal travel to Cuba, Cultural Island is prepared to offer itineraries for marathoners as well as for spectators. Our 4-day tour allows you run briskly while exploring Havana at a pace that is fast enough to satisfy your wanderlust without producing that heavy, tired feeling. And although you won’t be in Cuba long, you’ll leave with the runner’s high and a deep sense of satisfaction! Highlights include encounters with Havana’s up-and-coming artists, exclusive dance performances, and nightly outings to see some of Cuba’s finest jazz, salsa bands and son bands in the style of the Buena Vista Social Club. Sample Itinerary

DAY 1 United States-Havana

  • Marathoners & Spectators:
  • Depart from Miami to Havana
  • Check in at your hotel, followed by tour and marathon orientation
  • Spectators*:
  • Visit Old Havana’s plazas art galleries and meet artists who share stories behind their art
  • Visit the famed Hotel Nacional
  • Take a tour of Havana in a Classic convertible American car
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

DAY 2 Havana

  • Marathoners:
  • Participate in the MaraCuba 3k race.
  • Take part in the celebratory parade with music and dancing.
  • Spectators*:
  • Check -in for the marathon and receive your race number and chip.
  • Dinner on your own.
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
  • Spectators:
  • Visit Old Havana and learn about Havana’s world-renowned architecture
  • Meet and mingle with local fine and print artists at a collective art studio/gallery and discuss their art with them in person
  • Lunch at a top-rated Paladar*
  • Visit a famous recording studio and learn about Cuba’s recording industry
  • Enjoy a private jazz performance with one of Cuba’s top young jazz groups
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

DAY 3 Havana

  • Marathoners:
  • Take part in Havana Marathon.
  • Spectators:
  • After viewing opening of race, Visit the home studios of a world-famous, fine artist married couple.
  • Enjoy lunch at Paladar San Cristobal
  • Visit the house and grounds of Ernest Hemingway
  • Enjoy a show at the Buena Vista Social Club
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

DAY 4 Havana-United States

  • Marathoners & Spectators:
  • Enjoy breakfast at your hotel
  • Visit Havana’s markets (time permitting)
  • Bid farewell to Havana from Havana’s Jose Marti Airport
  • Meals: Breakfast

A Paladar is a privately owned restaurant, as opposed to regular restaurants that are owned and operated by the Cuban government. Palada-res compete with each other and most of them are quite beautiful and creative with great food and flare. Eating at paladares also helps encourage private enterprise in Cuba. We include as many paladares as possible in our program to help local business and to provide you with the best Cuban restaurant experience.
